1943 Steel Lincoln Wheat Cents, Mint Damage?

nlp coins Pillar of the Community United States 2373 Posts	Posted 05/14/2008 12:08 pm I have a small bag of these and while going through them noticed two with some damage that doesn't appear likely from bag storage. Could someone help with an opinion? Thank you for looking. nlp This image looks like the N in cent, (if it were made of wax) had a hot radius object drawn through it. I don't know any other way to explain it. In this image, the ERI in America has a drag mark that has damaged the R. The contact points appear to be something serrated similar to the edge of a Morgan. These coins have been in a safe for 30 years in a cloth bag by themselves. No reeded edges to contact them. Report this Post to the Staff

One thought is these cents were damaged post-mint then replated. The thickness of the plating can obscure the process that created these marks. If you post closeups on the obverse, some here might help determine if these were replated. Report this Post to the Staff
