I agree, you only need to pay for your finds and event then it is just face value.

You just need to make sure you have enough sanity to play with.

I envy all North Americans their ability to go coin roll hunting! Here in the UK our oldest circulating coins are the 1p and 2p from 1971. There is no chance of getting silver - the most exciting finds are some of the scarcer commemoratives and there could be a small chance of getting a NIFC coin. In the Eurozone all pre-Euro coins have been demonetised, so basically everything in circulation dates from 2002 or later, although some countries struck Euro denominations dated 1999, 2000 and 2001. But I suppose Eurozone collectors do have quite a few rarities to look out for, such as the Monaco and Vatican coins and some of the 2-euro commemoratives!

If you have a Casino close by. stop at the Cashier's cage and ask for a few Rolls, if they look like they are new.

...and we envy you for the possibility of striking hoards of Roman coins while metal detecting just minutes from your door step!

I picked up a box of nickels in Brampton, Ontario. Each of the coin rolls was either 1 or 2 nickels short! Anyway, the entire box contained "used" nickels and yet there was very little exciting going on and nothing much to report regarding finds... I probably lost $2.50 - $5.00 just in rolling each roll back up to the required amount...
