I have only found 4 silver quarters this year, vs 9 90% halves, 75 40% and 45 dimes
why are the quarters so far and few between? I have searched CWR BWR and counter bags.

Quarters frequently circulate, halves don't.
They are used in everyday commerce, which gives people many more opportunities to find and pull silver ones from circulation.

The larger surface area makes the silver glint stand out more than on a dime.

In most respects the quarter is our largest circulation issue. Bigger to see you with, my dear.

I did some work in an entertainment arcade in the early 1990's that was still using quarters not tokens. To get paid, I could either have a check mailed to me or....take $300 in quarters. abut I was forewarned, there wouldn't be any silver in there since the owners two boy's after school chores were to remove the good stuff.

I've received three silver quarters back in change in the last five years, one just last week. I don't know how I missed it, as I've been checking my change since the early 1970's, but it was on top of the change in the jar on the shelf.
Yep, quarters are big coins and the silver ones stand out. The one I just found was in BU condition, so I'm assuming it came from a collection.
Even back when I was roll hunting in the late '70's, silver quarters were hard to come by. There were a lot of roll hunters then as silver value approached $50/oz.
My current silver quarter finds from boxes averaged about one per $750 searched.
When I listen to LED ZEPPELIN...so do my neighbors... Roll hunting since '77 Dirt fishing since '72

if you ignore the 40% halves and look at just the 90%ers, I am finding about 1 90% for 4 boxes searched of halves, I have never gotten a box of quarters but fistfulladirt feels he is getting one every $750 ( box and a half?) so it may be the same sort of thing

Over the last 2 1/2 years I have lived here I have found:
1 silver dime in change vs. a couple dozen in CoinStars; No silver quarters in change vs. about a dozen in CoinStars; 1 40% half in change (actually saw it in a till and asked for it...) and none in CoinStars.
I have not CRH'd anything other than pennies and nickels.
Back in the 70's my sister worked as a bank teller and she and her compatriots were culling silver daily from their tills. I suspect this was not an isolated occurrence and accounted for a large percentage of the consumer level silver pulls.
What we have left these days are stragglers from change jars and collection dumps.

I agree that virtually all silver today are collection/hoard dumps.
Coinstar do you check the reject tray at the bottom front of the machine? or is there another place to look? I have checked them everytime I go by one at the store and have never seen a single coin, people in Mass must be frugal
