This is my first post. Ive had this penny for a few years, and still cannot find an error like this one for this year. I would not believe it was the same coin myself, if I didnt have it. Any ideas, or suggestions on what happen with this coin, I also am unsure if it is a 1936 "S" or not. I see a faint "S" at certain angles. Thanks for any comments. *** Moved by Staff moved to a more appropriate forum. ***

to the forum! It looks like it has had or still has something on it, protecting it from the air around it. Part of it toned with time, while parts of it didn't. It is a 1936 from Philadelphia, no mint mark.

That is a left over "gold wash". Had LWC's with it, stuff would come off weird, try soaking in acetone it may remove the gold, but coin will be two-toned and just as ugly. Toss in copper bulk bin.

Definitely some type of residue on the reverse of the coin. No error by any means. Acetone might get this off.
Errers and Varietys.

to the CCF. that this is a Philadelphia mint coin with some sort of material or coating on the reverse. It is not an 'error' as it did not leave the mint in this condition.

This was glued in a self made album, or some type of promotional advertising. The glue protected areas of the reverse which were not exposed. Pure acetone will remove the glue, but this coin is only worth Three Cents, at most. I wouldn't spend any time on it.

Thank you so much for your responses. Think I'll keep it regardless. It looks unique. On to my next one
