What I find amazing is that you're happy while some people would absolutely freak out on them. Is this you... https://www.cNGCoins.com/Because that's who is taking credit for it at Wikipedia.

Thanks, Paul and Steve 1 and Steve 2. Quote: What I find amazing is that you're happy while some people would absolutely freak out on them. Doesn't bother me in the least, Bobby - quite the opposite, in fact. The coin here is "mine," but the photo is not. #2 from CNG's posted "General Questions" is: "Can I use a photograph from CNG's website?" Their answer is "Any of our photographs may be reproduced as long as credit is given to CNG as the source of the photographs. Please include our site's URL, http://www.cNGCoins.com, in any citation." The Wiki poster complied with CNG's rule, so all is good. More to the point: I have always felt like more of a steward than owner of the coins in my collection. They had owners before me and will have owners after me. Perhaps because of that philosophy - if that's the right word - I enjoy seeing my coins illustrated in books and various websites. When I come across one of my coins documented somewhere, two things cross my mind: (1) others beside myself are getting to learn from, and enjoy, the coin (that, after all, is the very reason we share images and thoughts about our coins here in this forum), and (2) to some extent the question of a coin's authenticity, such a huge issue with ancients, is served well by a coin's use as/in a scholarly reference. Some time ago I became aware of a site consisting of multiple pages devoted to Persian coins. (Screenshot below) The author/owner of the site has a copyright symbol before his/her name at the top of the page, which I am crossing out in the screenshot. The second coin in that screen shot, the Kamnaskires IV tet, is currently in my collection. The photograph, however, is not mine. Is the site owner a former "steward" of the coin? Is the photo his/hers? Did he/she simply find an image of the coin online and select it for the gallery? I don't know. And I don't care. I won't be raising a stink. The site is educational. While, technically, the fair use exemption to the Copyright law that covers educational usage here in the States would not apply to public website posts (as opposed to classroom usage), I personally have no problem with someone using one of my coins for such intent. And, as the second image below - of the link from my coin - shows, others have been viewing it and implicitly learning from or admiring it. Fine by me!

I've seen a lot of CNG coins taking over the Wikipedia pages of their relevant subjects... perhaps they are the most lenient of the auction houses when it comes to the use of their images? It is also neat because by clicking through, one can usually see what the subject coin sold for.
