I was doing some coin roll hunting when I came across this 2001 year of volunteers dime which looked off. Upon closer inspection and comparison with a normal 2001 year of volunteers dime, I realised that the die press must have not hit the planchet in the center. There is more blank metal on one side than the other. When I showed this to my friends, we also noticed that the thickness of this dime was double the width of the other 2001 dime (the one we used for comparison). The die misalignment only occurs on the reverse side of the coin. Can anyone confirm this error and tell me what the estimated value for this would be? I took some close up photos through my jewelers loupe so it's easier to see. ***In the image with two dimes on top of each other, the bottom dime is the one with misalignment (for thickness comparison)***   |

If the weight is correct, then you have an off centered strike, maybe 5 to 10 bucks but few dime collectors

What do you mean by weight? Do you mean that I should weigh it to see if it matches up with the catalogues recorded weight for a 2001 year of volunteers coin?
If so, wouldn't the extra thickness throw off the weight a little bit?

If this coin is correct weight for a regular dime, it's a off centered strike, if not might be struck on a foreign planchet for that year, check Mr. Glassford's site

@johnnysprawl Unfortunately, I do not have a scale that is capable of weighing this dime. The thickness is about 1mm. Diameter: 1.75cm/1.8cm The other side looks to be punched normally, but there are some small die grooves under the lettering in Elizabeth which is quite common for this coin. I don't really think that it was struck on a foreign planchet, plus I just wanted to know if this was an off centered strike error.

G o to local Canada Post and ask nicely their scales are quite accurate.
