Note the roll near the edge - a feature that is usually seen in relation to dies made with image transfer techniques. That is something that can be seen on high speed modern presses at times with worn dies, but Rome used a slower press and got far superior strikes. Second there is a very narrow near wire rim. Also, this is a very popular type amongst forgerers. Those two factors alone merit extreme scrutiny. If it's listed on ebay, the odds are quite good that it's a forgery. As for this coin in particular, there are many things that immediately stick out: 1. Missing denticles that are clearly visible in SwamperBobs original image 2. Mushy detail 3. Missing detail inside the knot of savoy (Knot above the middle "L" of Tallero) 4. I couldn't get over this one - the horribly disfigured "8" in "1891" Report this Post to the Staff
