Quote: This one arrived the other day. It's not marked specimen but that's what it is. This is a generic type certificate that had the company name added later. I picked it up because it was printed by the New York Bank Note Company, which is one I didn't have. Also I liked the cow A lovely example!

Quote: Here's another specimen printed by Columbian Bank Note Co. with a vignette I haven't seen before. The punch lettering is also a bit unusual; you can see it better from the back. Very nice!

I just picked up another specimen bond by Republic Bank Note. Very nice (and large) vignette across the top.

Here's a neat specimen bond that arrived last week, with a vignette of a coal mine tram, bringing up the day's load.

Another recent pick-up. I wonder whether this building still exists.

Specimens seems to be getting harder to find at what I consider a reasonable price. But here's one I added recently; printed by Columbian Bank Note Co. I like the bears in the Missouri state seal.

Back on the first page of this thread, I mentioned Federated Bank Note Company, which was a subsidiary of London-based De La Rue Banknote Co. Federated was established in Philadelphia with an eye to luring security printing business away from the larger banknote companies. Apparently that didn't happen, and the company seems to have dried up by the 1980s. Federated is the only company I've seen that printed the dates on their specimen certificates. Here's one they did for Gulton Industries.
