I added a specimen from a new printer to my collection. This example was printed by Schwabacher-Frey of San Francisco. I know next to nothing about this printing company. It looks like they botched the serial number on this certificate, so they decided to punch cancel it and use it as a specimen. The First National Corp of Portland (OR) also interested me, as I lived there for many years. I think the firm was associated with the First Nat. Bank of Portland; it's probably from the late 1930s, early '40s.

And another punch-lettered specimen, this printed by Hamilton Bank Note.

I just realized there was another specimens I hadn't posted -- and one is also a Schwabacher-Frey printing. Apparently they liked semi-circles. It looks like S-F did the lithography for the text and vignettes, but they may not have done the engraved frames. Smaller printing companies that didn't have intaglio capabilities often bought pre-printed blanks from banknote companies, then did the rest in-house. This may be the first example I've found where it looks like they used a typewriter for the word "SPECIMEN"

It's been a bit slow on the forum lately, but here's one of my recent buys. This was too cute to pass up. It's a mini-specimen bond from Security Bank Note Co., only 5"x8"! I like that all the typical elements are there, even on the back. Technically, it's a promotional note and the small print is just an advert for the company.

Saturn, I'd love to see some if those if you wouldn't mind posting some pictures. There's a thread devoted to mining certificates:

Yesterday I got a specimen for an aviation stock and had to decide which thread to post it on. I guess I'll use this one. The stock is for National Airlines, which was in business from 1934 to 1980, based in Florida. It was eventually bought by PanAm.

Very interesting! This is a specimen from a Philadelphia printer I'm not familiar with.
