Here are the proof versions of the Boys Town Silver Dollar and Half Eagle. I grew up not far from Omaha and visited Boys Town a few times way back when. It has a nice campus. This issue has the unenviable distinction of setting the new low mintage for the modern commemorative dollars and half eagles. It's too bad this commemorative wasn't more popular, as Boys Town does good work.

Beautiful coins. I'm developing an attraction for these "new" issues. It may become a want list if I'm not careful Thanks so very much for keeping us alive and moving along. I was afraid we were going to miss something, and we haven't thanks to you guys.

I hadn't seen the Braille coin before. Anyone know what it says on Braille?
Braille's expression looks like he was a happy kind of fellow.

I'm no Braille expert, but consulting a Braille chart, it appears to be Quote: 'BRL with the leading apostrophe indicating it's an (obvious) abbreviation for "Braille". Nice coin!

Missed my opportunity for the Boys Town coins! Phooey. Here's the gold proof anyway. P.S. the more I look at the Boys Town dollar coin, the more I like it. Love the huge field on that obverse with the little girl watching the leaf fall and the little kids playing under the massive (Cottonwood?) tree on the reverse. Great design and I'm glad I have both the proof and UNC. Also I love the gold design -- it's simple and elegant. Except for the half design being a bit too busy, I think these designs are all excellent. @BadDog, like you I grew up near (actually in) Omaha and went to Boys Town frequently for various reasons. My high school was only a mile away. Hadn't been back in MANY years but I visited the gift shop while on business a few months ago and discovered you can not buy the commemorative coins there for some stupid reason. I would expect sales would be at least somewhat better if you were to be able to buy them at the BOYS TOWN GIFT SHOP. Silly me. Also, as was discussed in other threads, not many people outside of Nebraska know what Boys Town is, unfortunately (even though they have several campuses in the United States). So I'm sure that hurt sales.

The reverse of the gold Boys Town is among my favorites -- simple, meaningful, well composed.
Braille... it's fine as a commemorative -- easy to "get" but something about his grin makes me think of the Muppets.

Thanks to all of you for continuing our series with those modern issues. I've listed a couple (a oh), that I find particularly attractive. I'll be watching daily for more on this fantastic thread.
