Worn out has quite the collection. I'm pretty sure it's him who has an NGC registry set that I have drooled over many times. Kudos to you, worn out!

As for the Norse in circulated, I passed on a PCGS F15 recently, and I've been kicking myself.

Old Spanish trail is one of two I haven't cracked out for my album MS 66.

Only one Spanish Trail? This is one I've been waiting to get—I like the looks of it and I lived in all those areas!

In the meantime, get ready for the onslaught of Olympics. I'm a bit curious to see how this plays out ...

Only one Spanish Trail?

No ... but a long day at work for me that started at 3:15am ... finally catching up.

The Spanish Trail is my #3 'most difficult stopper' for the certified circulated set.

The are a total of three certified Spanish Trail at XF45 or lower ... two PCGS and one NGC. The lowball is an amazing PCGS VF30 example.

As such there are some serious collectors who consider this coin to be the most difficult example to find in honestly circulated state.

All collectors consider this to be a key date type coin ... a total of 10,008 minted ... imagine the circumstances that led any of these to have honest circulation wear?

My circulated example is the only one I have seen in 10+ years of dedicated searching.

Like Coronet, I've been waiting on the Spanish Trail. I will only look at MS66 for them, as the price difference in MS is relatively small, so might as well go as high as I can. But whenever I find one, the cash doesn't seem to be there. But one day they will both come together!

And I really like the look of it in circulated condition!

Hey All. Sorry to have gotten behind. Here are the two days I missed.

I would note that the comment Beefer made about the Spanish Trail is so very true (not that we would expect otherwise).

Anyone buying a MS-65 Spanish Trail really has to be a lame buyer. Since it's over $1000, for sure, I can't imagine why anyone would fail to look up the statistics to see that the MS-66 is only a tiny bit more than the 65, percentage wise.

Here are my late arrivals:

That Norfolk is a knockout, really love it. The Spanish trail is one of my favorite commems - I suppose those wide open fields on both sides make this really tough in the higher grades.

You are so right, Coin Frog.

In some respects the Spanish Trail is like a Franklin half. With the huge open spaces every single tick stands out. There are two such ticks on my obverse with the reverse being nearly perfect. Still a 66.

I probably looked at 50-60 MS 66's sold and this was the best of them all.

I'd also mention that PCGS, for whatever reason, is MUCH MORE lax on the 66 grade for this issue. I quit looking at PCGS after much head scratching when it was obvious that their 66 was never as strong. Odd. Not so on most, but it sure seemed to be true on the 66 Spanish Trail.

Good analogy with Franklins. My fist reaction to the obverse on your OST was 65, but then I started thinking about that ocean of open space. The reverse, as you say, is virtually perfect.
