WornOut, that coin is stunning! Here is my SP66 example. Well, it was my example until last week. I was lucky enough to cherry pick this one. It's actually quite brilliant and is fully proof like. I know I'll never have another but it was a coin I couldn't afford to keep.

1636, 1682, 1736, 1845, 1936 Five dates on one coin, and none of those are the year they were minted (1937). Just another quirky tidbit in the early commemoratives.

There's a lot packed into this coin—it's a busy one! And I'm a little unsure about how "commemorative" the coin is—as I understand it, the coin marks the change from village to borough? In any case, I've read that low ball collectors struggle on this one—@nickelsearcher, do you have anything to offer?

Quote: I've read that low ball collectors struggle on this one True ... being a member of what I have called the 'commemorative craze' era which produced 29 of the 50 type set examples between 1934 and 1939, the Norfolk is indeed a challenging example to find in the marketplace in honestly circulated state. Examples from the 'commemorative craze' era with very few exceptions simply did not circulate. I believe most of the 'circulated' examples available today were carried as pocket pieces ... and most collectors in the day who paid premiums over face value chose to preserve their examples as MS. That said ... my honestly circulated Norfolk: 1936 Norfolk (VA) Bicentennial Half Dollar - PCGS VF25 Enjoy

Knockouts, all of them, and congrats. With all its incredible detail, the Norfolk is definitely a stopper in MS, but nickelsearcher's is one of the few I've seen in a circulated grade and I like it as well.

Considered by many collectors to be the 51st type 'coin' of the classic silver commemorative set, the Norse American medal is included in many sets. Lacking a denomination, the medal obviously did not circulate ... thus any worn pieces were exclusively pocket pieces. Wondering who carried mine for so long to reach the following state of wear? 1925 Norse American Medal (thick) PCGS FR02 Enjoy

Quote: Considered by many collectors to be the 51st type 'coin' of the classic silver commemorative set... Couldn't disagree more. IMHO the rationale used to include it is flawed. The same rationale ISN'T used when it comes to including modern medals with the modern commemorative series and those medals generally aren't considered to be part of the series (and weren't included in Coronet1832's list for this thread). Just my opinion.

Love seeing these. Really like the toning on your MS64 @WornOut! Quote: thus any worn pieces were exclusively pocket pieces. Since so many worn pieces have been posted - is it easier to find well-worn examples of this coin or about the same as other commems?

Worn Out and myself have been searching for many years ... so do not let the posting of these photos lead you to believe these are everyday finds. There are many circulated classic silver commemorative much tougher to find than the Norse medal ... and please note that I have been discussing the 'stoppers' as their day comes.
