The Arkansas - Robinson is one of two coins in my circulated set that is not at least XF45 ... which should speak volumes for how difficult this coin is to obtain in honestly circulated state. Here is the only example I have come across in over 10 years of searching: 1936 Arkansas - Robinson Half Dollar - PCGS AU55 Enjoy

The FDR half eagle was one of seven coins authorized by PL 104-329. Its purpose was to commemorate the public opening of the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial in Washington DC. The FDR memorial is one of the larger memorials in WDC, with separate sections devoted to each of FDR's terms. Well worth visiting if you travel to WDC. Here's the proof version of the half eagle ...

I first purchased this coin from the mint in 1997 but was forced to sell it for financial need in 2012 during a spike in gold pricing for a handsome sum. a few years ago I was able to replace it with a graded example for a third of what I had sold the original one for. I find it odd that the mint issued this coin only as a gold offering with only one other time the 1999 Washington death $5 issued without accompanying coins. Also odd is the fact FDR was responsible for the removal of gold coinage from our circulating coins and he is honored in a gold coin.

Sorry for the day late. I do like those FDR, even if only in gold, which I agree, does seem a bit out of historical perspective. Here's my Robinson. I actually LOVE the peripheral tone on this coin and tried hard to collect other coins like this one. Not many available in the CSC. The one area I don't collect, Morgan's (except for mint sets) is the easiest to find with this type of toning. I'd kill to find a few WLH with this toning. Well - maybe not kill, but do serious bank damage.

I agree with muddler about the Roosevelt commem. He did away with gold and we honor him with gold. BTW I do like the eagle on the rev a hold lot more than the obv.

@ Worn Out - that is an interesting example ... do you mind sharing the backstory? Perhaps the initial 100 or so were saved and memorialized? The Bay Bridge half is relatively available to collectors in honestly circulated state ... examples in XF/AU appear in the marketplace often enough that this coin can be obtained within a few years of dedicated searching. 1936-S San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge Half Dollar - PCGS VF20 Enjoy

Love those neat distribution inclusions. Those really help cement the commemorative with the history behind them. Here's my Bay Bridge: Did we already cover these under Bay Bridge?
