In 1989, the US Congress marked its 200th Anniversary. In conjunction, a three-coin - Gold Half Eagle, Silver Dollar and Copper-Nickel (CuNi) Clad Half Dollar were struck by the US Mint. The Clad Half Dollar and Silver Dollar each featured a depiction of the allegorical/mythological figure of Freedom - the statue of Freedom tops the Dome of the US Capitol. The 2011 United States ("US") Medal of Honor commemorative coin program features a Gold Half Eagle and a Silver Dollar. The coins commemorate the 150th anniversary of the creation of the US Medal of Honor (its creation dates to the US Civil War: Navy - 1861; Army - 1862). Mythology makes its design appearance on the Gold Half Eagle. The reverse of the Half Eagle depicts Minerva - the Roman goddess of wisdom and warfare (among other things!). Minerva is presented with the Civil War-era Union Shield in her right hand and a Union Flag in her left. A cannon dating to the US Civil War is seen behind Minerva.

To commemorate the 2010 Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games, the Royal Canadian Mint released a large number of gold and silver coins. Among them was a Proof Silver Dollar that honored the mythology of Canada's First Nations people: the Sun Dollar.
