Here's another "mythology" coin from Canada - the 1958 British Columbia Centennial Silver Dollar. The coin marks the one hundredth anniversary of the Province's Frasier Canyon Gold Rush, and the creation of British Columbia as a Crown colony, in 1858. (It does not commemorate the 100th Anniversary of British Columbia joining the Canadian Confederation - a 1971 Silver Dollar does that!)

The commemorative reverse of the coin depicts a totem pole with carvings that represent symbolism and mythology within some of Canada's indigenous First Nations people. The figure at the top of the pole is recognized by some as a raven and, therefore, a symbol of death - hence, Canada's "Death Dollar," while others view the totem as depicting a mother bear and her cub representing family and protection. I'm in the "momma bear with cub" camp, but it's difficult to fight mythological beliefs!

As part of its coin program to commemorate the 150th Anniversary of the Canadian Confederation, the Royal Canadian Mint produced several Silver Dollar designs. One featured a modern interpretation of a traditional mythological/allegorical representation of Canada via a female figure.

The coin was available as a regular Proof and also as a selectively gold-plated coin (in a Proof Set).

Here's another non-circulating legal tender (NCLT) commemorative coin from Canada that features a design steeped in mythology. It is part of the Royal Canadian Mint's Silver $5 Canadian Bank Note series.

The Royal Canadian Mint describes the coin's reverse design as:

"...a seascape-themed vignette from the Canadian Bank of Commerce's 1888 20-dollar bank note. The design centres a youthful figure: possibly a young Hermès, who was a god of the Greek pantheon and a patron of travellers. The figure leans on a large fish, holding a staff entwined by two snakes. Also known as a caduceus, this staff symbolizes commerce and balance. In the background are four ships from various ages of sea travel, a rocky point jutting out into the water, and a tall lighthouse to guide the vessels to safe harbour."

Here's a 1927 commemorative medal that celebrates the 100th Anniversary of the B&O Railroad Company (i.e., Baltimore & Ohio Railroad Company). It features the mythological Spirit of Transportation guiding a locomotive on its obverse.
