15,391,000 normal MOB of rules was minted for 1998. In addition, the Howard Florey commemorative was also issued with the C,S,B,A & M mint marks.20,000 silver proofs were also struck.  |

MOB of Roos not minted in 1999. Two commemoratives were issued instead, namely "The Last ANZAC"and "International Year of Older Persons". The Last ANZAC was minted wit C,S,M,B & A mint marsand 25,000 silver proofs were also struck. It should be noted that a year 2000 Last ANZAC was also struck for inclusion in PNC's of that year. The International Year of the Older Person wa struck without any mint marks and no silver was issued.   |

2000 is an interesting year for Aussie Numismatics. The MOB of Roos was strucked and it included the Al-Br proofs. The Proof sets have gone up a lot since its issue that it lies just behind the 1966 Proof set. Another well known coin is the $1.00/10 cents Mule of this year. Besides the MOB of Roos three other dollar coins were also issued, the best known and chased by collectors is the "VC"dollar shown below.Issued in folders and PNC, there were no proofs struck  Then followed by the HMAS Sydney II Commemorative dollar.Issued with C& S mint marks ans a silver proof  And lastly the Olymphilex commemorative issed with C&S mint marks but no silver.  |

The MOB of Roos was used again in 2001, the reverse design has not change ay all since 1984. Few other commemorative were issued as well, this is one of them in both proof as well normal circulating coins.   |

Commemorative coins were also strucked in recognition of the three armed services. The Army..issued with either C or S mintmarks. Silver proof coin was also struck.  The Navy...no mint marks or silver, this one is quietly appreciating very nicely. Issued at $2.17 this one is now selling at around the $40.00 mark.  The last of the trio...The Air Force....no mint marks or silver.  |

2002...no Mob of Roos but a year of the "Outback" coin was issued. C,S,B,M mint marks were strucked for collectors nad no MMs were strucked for normal circulation.  Proof coins had a coloured central device.  |

2003...No Mob of Roos. The Year of Australian Volunteers was issued.  The Proof Version.  The 50th Anniversary of the end of the Korean was also issed with the following mint marks..C,S,B,M and 15,000 silver ones was also minted.  |

With all of the above posts, just a broad overview has been provided of our decimal dollar circulating coinage. I have not gone into discovered varieties nor into any types of packaging used by the Mint or private dealers.
For any member looking for additional information, they can be obtained from two recommended reference books, namely, Greg McDonald's Guide to Australian Coins & Banknotes now in it's 13th edition or Renniks Australian Coins & Banknotes 21st Edition.
Alternatively, members can also post their questions here and Aussie members will try to answer them.

lim118 YOU are killing me! I had decided I ONLY wanted the Mob of Roos and now YOU have me wanting the whole darn set!!! Guess I am going to have to get busy and catch up with all you Aussies as what seemed simple at first now looks very complex! Thanks for the photos and info as they are a great help!

Looks like I am going to have to set up a "Trail Drive" and herd all those little doggies to the U.S. so if you here "Head'em up, Move'im Out" blowing in the Australian wind, its probably me riding the range rounding up those Australian dollars! Man I need the whole herd!

They are not expensive when compared to the Morgans and really not that many of them to collect either. The real expensive ones are those issued to VIPs where the difference is in the presentation folders. To me, to pay top dollars just for the difference in the packaging of the coin is a bit silly. Some colletors will not agree with that comment, but as it has been said "to each, his own". |
