My son and I just opened a box of halves and we hit the motherload of NIFC's 2002= 2 2010= 11 2011= 13 2012= 16 2013= 21 2014= 5 Proof's =3...1983, 1984, and 1976. No silver, but still a fun box. The NIFC's stick out when edge searching. My son pulled 9 out of one roll and we kept 2 enders, so there are prolly more NIFC's in those. I had one other box where I hit a bunch of 2016 and 2017's. I'm starting to wonder if the Government just dumped a bunch of NIFC coins that never got purchased. If not, are you telling me someone bought all these from the mint, then just decided to dump them? I know that happens over time with silver coins, but with how new these things are, it seems odd.  |

I have yet to find a 2017 half dollar, nor a 2016-P.
As to how/why the NIFCs get into circulation, I don't have an honest answer for you. My best guess is that the unsold ones from the previous year's production end up getting dumped - though this doesn't explain why people sometimes find NIFCs from the current year. Perhaps the banks get orders, and when the vendors like BRINKS and GARDA get them from the Fed they sometimes ship new ones? Anyone else have theories?

Nice. It's possible that a dealer bought them, picked out the MS 69's and MS 70's, and sent them off to be slabbed. |

Again I don't know how that happened. Either the government dumps them, or some that were bought within the last year, got dumped by an individual for some reason. Very weird to me. |

Sometimes collectors and shops buy large lots and look for those high grade ones, dump the rest.

Sometimes roll hunters dump their huge collections of unwanted leftovers. Like myself. I dump all those, plus dozens of chaffed dug IH's, dateless Buffalos, and thousands of 1945-1958 Jefferson nickels. I keep one of each NIFC, and impaired proof, out of hundreds, dump the rest. When I listen to LED ZEPPELIN...so do my neighbors...
