Quote: Quite some haul you got there... And what I've posted so far is just the proverbial "tip of the iceberg" with a whole lot more to come. Quote: Lucky, do you know of a resource that has ID info on these? I was actually just looking at books on the subject on Amazon this morning. They tend to be in German rather than English, ship from Germany or Austria, and very expensive. I'm not sure how useful or well illustrated they are. I need to get one or more of them in hand before I can make any recommendation one way or the other.

Yea, that's what I've found, my 2 years of high school German didn't help me much! I can at least nail down city/states and areas of issue and by whom fairly well, that's about it, not the full gist of the snarky comments!

A lot of these are in colloquial German, you'll hear it on the streets in 1920, but not in any classroom in the US.

I have a previously purchased Thuringian 50 pfennig note in particular for which my long ago learned college German is largely inadequate (although I get it that somebody is being called a "miserable dog" and also have a general sense of the complaint being made). But I can't get anybody in the German Department at my alma mater to even take a stab at accurately translating it for me.

@Crazyb0, I have a pretty good set of catalogues. They were more modestly priced when I ordered directly from Germany.
Also, many of the notes used north German (low German) dialects, and there were a number of them.

What look like duplicates here in actuality have varying back designs.

Miserable Dog! With our money in rags, so we must fly!
It's pretty hard to translate, no doubt about that. The above is the most sensical I can come up with.

These notgeld notes are so pretty, I had to delve into them myself. Here are some of the ones I've recently bought.

What a colorful thread. I wish I had time, space, and money for another collection such as this.

Nice sets, too. Sometimes there is a story going across the series of notes, one would miss that if only one or two were in hand.
