Could this be a proof? The rims are very squared and distinct, and the coin, although showing minor wear, appears well struck.

Definitely not a proof (and looks like 1938, not 1939).
Rest in Peace

. Look at an NGC or PCGS example and you will immediately see the difference.

Not a proof. Notice the area near the word IN on the obverse. It sweeps up toward the rim with the surface.
Not a bad nickel though.

I agree not a proof, but a very nice coin and worth putting in a 2x2.

I'm finishing up a Jefferson set myself, and agree with the above comments as well.
Not a proof, but a nice 1938P coin.
Still a bit of detail in the hair on obverse, and can make out the pillars and windows of Monticello on the Reverse, so would probably put it as AU53.

I try to use the Photgrade guidebook, which provides not only photos, but specific things to look for on each coin (areas to look for detail/wear, etc.). But I probably grade more "wrong" then "right" still...

But a nice Jefferson indeed.

I think they are an overlooked series, especially for the earlier dates.

Regards,

Michael
