Just wondering - are there any cases that $1000 notes have been counterfeited in Canada - especially the older ones? I understand the need for caution however I suspect that if one were to counterfeit notes they would be better off doing 20's, 50's or 100's as they are easier to spend.

It is illegal to own them, you should get it graded by a certified grader PCCGS.

Nice! Inform the seller that owning counterfeit bills are illegal and if there are still counterfeit though marked as real, you should report him on the counterfeit item forum.

I agree with "aghawk" $1000 denominations are rarely counterfeited (too much scrutiny).

Not all notes have planchettes so while it is a valid earmark of a legit note, not always reliable for all notes.

Use a loupe or magnifying glass to see the microprinting of the allegorical figures and the markers of legal tender. There is also microprinting in the signature panel which usually has the denomination repeated (e.g.: one dollar or un dollar for the $1/thousand dollar or mille dollar for the $1000). Fakes are very sloppy in getting these features down nicely.

Also- it is very common to see the font of the serial number off or poorly spaced.
