I came to this conclusion reluctantly, but you should source absolutely nothing from Asia, except for perhaps one or two dealers in Hong Kong.

The 1937 series has been faked, but not as much as the 1954 series. Try for certified and graded notes or use local shops of repute for awhile. Vancouver Coin is a good shop, I've used them several times. There are plenty of vendors of Canada notes in Canada, no need to go out of country. You can't cheat an honest man.

I think the tell on the 1937 notes is the eyes, and the planchettes should be present, small green dots in the paper. Get a good hand lens and keep it handy.

The little green planchettes on the notes mentioned, will also peel off like a scab and leave a kind of white birth mark where it was, that is also a confirmed way to check bills for authenticity, they are done that way by design, if a bill has the green dots yet they won't peel off like a scab, there's a good chance its not authentic.

I believe you could do that test on a good note, just do not crease it in fold trying to get an edge of the planchette to rise to pick it, there are better ways to pick it. An some notes may have already had one or two picked to authenticate.so look for the birth mark of a previous pick, my experience here speaking

The little green dots were a way for a fast retail test to authenticate and the beauty of it was that it took only less than a minute to do without a special team to do so, I worked in a Sam the Record Man fast turnover of stock daily and the green dot was our fast proof of a good bill so perhapsmany of the bills out there today may have had a dot or two peeled by us back in the day........

Do your testing with a cheap note.

The eyes were intricately engraved on the true notes. On the fake, the detail is not as clear or as intricate. You need a good hand lens, go buy a Bausch & Lomb double lens, the folding kind, about 3x separate and 15x when both lenses are together. Start examining notes, the only way to learn.

Also, the planchettes should be hard, unable to be bent, I recommend trying to try and bend the notes at the planchettes, there should be a little part that stays straight. If you do do it, keep it out of the case when you do, otherwise you can't verify.

To see how a planchette is ripped, try testing on a canadian tire money Bill, those aren't valuable, and to get them, go to CT and pay with a non CT card and don't use CT rewards card.
