Quote: It is a bummer to flatten Indian Head cents, but yours came out really nice. The ones I'm using up are cheapies from "cull" bins, real dregs plus such common dates that they'd never even be used as hole fillers. For example, that first 1909 was defaced, had been harshly cleaned, and even disregarding those serious impairments, would've graded VG at best. The others I was using up this week look to have been dug up after many years in the ground, and were beyond any realistic expectation of being able to be brought back via accepted methods of conservation. I take the view that the process of pressing such is more "repurposing" than destroying them.

An example of this design has already been shown here, but I thought I'd provide some context. It depicts a famously wry bit of doggerel on a grave marker in Tombstone's Boothill cemetery.   Lester Moore was a Wells Fargo employee killed in a dispute with a customer over a delivered package that was found to have its contents damaged en route.
