I have coins soaking in distilled water all around my house, but I must admit that I also have fun buying "crusties" by the pound and using electrolysis on them. Many come out little more than slugs or ghostly images, but I enjoy trying to identify them. By the chin and nose, I'm thinking Maximinus I. Does any other emperor look anything like him? And that would be seated Salus on the reverse.

Not sure an ID is possible on this one. Is it a sestertius?

I'm leaning toward Commodus, personally.

Sorry - my photography skills, though improving, still have a long way to go. The coin shows a man with a very protruding chin. Does anyone beside Maximinus Thrax have that? My coin shows a chin like these:

Reverse legend at 4-5:00 seems to end in "N" and, perhaps, omega-nu:ΩΝ. Are there seated Salus reverses ending in that?

The hair on the obverse seems rather unkempt...isn't Maximinus Thrax's hair usually depicted short and tight to the cranium?

The first picture has the look of Alexander on the Koinon/ Macedonia series mid 3rd century to my eye.
I could be way off but that came to mind first.

Hmmm. You certainly have a point there, Bob. I was so fixed on the hooked nose and protruding chin that I had ignored the hair. I can NOT find any Maximinus coins with wild hair, looking a bit like Rod Stewart's! I'll work on finishing up the cleaning, as well as getting much better photos, then I'll try posting here again. Thanks for the FYI!

Tenbobbit, you might have hit it. The hair is right, so is the Omega N in the right place. When/where would this coin have been minted? Date range? Who, then, on obverse?

I think Damion/Bobbit has got it. Well done! For comparison:

You guys are awesome! Hope you don't find a newbie with zapped crusties to be too much of a pest! :-)
