Hi all,

A few years ago I was given a 1865 Shooting Thaler by my grandfather. Would anyone be able to confirm whether this is real?

Many thanks, Matt

The shooting talers, with few exceptions, were treated as something special in their minting.

This appears to have misalignment, "Sandy" fields, a limited separation between the design elements and the fields, and inconsistent circulation patterns. Plus applied cameo contrast.

All would lead me to be suspicious of this piece.

100% fake. Side rim is all wrong, not to mentioned mushy detail on a seemingly uncirculated coin.

Lastly, the dentils are a dead giveaway.
