Apologies if discussion of other coin sites is not allowed, or if this is the wrong subforum, but I was wondering if anybody here might know what happened to CoinQuest.

If you've never been there, coinquest.com has had a number of very helpful articles on a broad range of foreign and domestic coins and tokens. I used it a lot until one day it just disappeared without warning. All you get if you go to the website now is a message saying "Site down.", with no indication on when or if it will ever return. I'm not sure when it went down but I believe it's been at least a week or two.

Anybody have any information? Thank you.

Never heard of it but I just tried it to see what it was. I couldn't find it at all.

I found a snapshot on the Internet Archive of the site from February 2018.

https://web.archive.org/web/20180224031346/http://coinquest.com/

I was hoping it would say "Going down for maintenance for X days" or something, but no luck.

Really hope it's not gone forever, that was a handy site. ...Well not as handy as coincommunity of course, but still good!

Thanks but I don't think that coinquestweb has any connection to coinquest, those are some nice Canadian coins though!

The site owner is a retired coin dealer; at one point he had a CCF id (statmatics) but has not posted since 2012. Perhaps he decided that maintaining the website was no longer interesting or financially feasible, or it may be down for server maintenance / relocation / upgrades...presumably he's the only one who would be able to tell us for now. If it's not back up in a couple of days I would assume it's more likely the former than the latter.
