For today I have ... Duchy of Lorraine, 1629 Teston of (former) Duke Francois II, Badonviller mint.

In my post of 1635 I mentioned the unusual circumstances surrounding the brief reign of Francois II's younger son as duke of Lorraine.
As we go back to the 1620s, it gets even more strange in Lorraine.
In 1624, Henry II of Lorraine died without a male heir. His daughter, Nicole then became Duchess, succeeding her father.
But Francois, the younger brother of Henry II protested that the crown must to pass to a male, and in 1625, the Estates General of the duchy ruled in his favor. He took the throne as Duke Francois II in November 1625, and five days later he abdicated to his son Charles, who by coincidence, was married to the aforementioned deposed duchess Nicole (his cousin). Francois, however, retained the right to mint coins.

So ... in the period 1624 to 1632 in Lorraine numismatics, we first have coins with Duchess Nicole and her husband Charles as consort (KM-30, 1624-27), then coins with only Charles IV as duke (KM-45, 1626-32, though Nicole is still his wife/consort, she is not on the coins) as in @t360s 1632 and 1630 posts, AND concurrently, coins with Francois II, Charles' father (KM-35, 1626-31)! I think we will see more of these over the next few days.
