I've read some discussions over the years about "the one that got away" and that certainly fits here. I was watching a group of
Morgan dollars up for auction yesterday. Included was an 1896 micro O Morgan - sufficiently gnarly looking to convince me that it was one of the "contemporary" counterfeits listed in the Morgan
VAM Top 100. I've acquired examples of the 1900-O and 1902-O, and have wanted to add this one.
I had all intentions of placing a bid. It was during the work day and I figured it would sell during my lunch hour. An impromptu meeting cropped up. I dutifully attended and then rushed to the auction site only to find that the three coin lot sold ONE LOT AHEAD OF MY ARRIVAL. What's worse, the three coins sold for a grand total of $90.

I'm still beating my head against the wall. I welcome any commiseration and shared stories of the one that slipped away. I'm sure there is already a topic on this but can't find.
