Sigismund the Old, Lithuanian half-groat. Rare coin with corrected date, 1516 in catalogues (in our book too), but there are many unanswered questions about this coin.   |

Very interesting coins! Indeed that first date is unusual. Does not look like 6 over 5. Maybe the diemaker first punched the 6 upside down as 9, making it 1516/19?  I also liked the unusual 7 from yesterday, which is more like the style of 7 before 1500. For me, 1516 is the only date for Sigismund I as King of Poland that I am missing, so I am out for today. |
