Here is another coin I got on impulse. lol

It is Hammered silver denga wire money from Ivan the Terrible. Made in the Tver mint between 1535 and 1538.

I do not know much about this either but I really love the depiction of a horseman on the oberse. I have actually picked up three of these recently just because I like the obverse so much. Still need to figure out what is written on the reverse.

It is definitely on my list of things to read about. lol

Nice coin, a great piece of history.

This one looks like a match

It says the inscription is "Grand Prince Ivan"

Excellent! I have always wanted one of these early Russian coins, but they are tough to get at reasonable prices!

Cool wire money!

I have a couple of the type, and between them...I pretty much have a full reverse legend.

Ivan IV was Grand Prince of Moscow (Muscovy) from 1530 to 1547. In the second half of the preceding century, the various autonomous Russian principalities had been freed from Mongol dominance and "gathered" under the rule of Grand Prince Ivan III (1440-1505) of Moscow. In 1547, Ivan IV was the first Russian ruler to be crowned "Tsar of all the Russias", formalizing his autonomous rule.

I don't know these types, but it looks like a nice example given what others have posted.

If you like mounted horsemen on coins, there are also places like Lithuania that you could check out, which has a mounted horseman as its national emblem. It has been using this image from medieval times until the present.

Also, depending on your budget, there are many western Europe coins with this motif starting from as early as the 12th century (maybe earlier). Low countries, Lorraine, and probably many others.
