Currently in Budapest. The twin cities of Buda and Pest (Capital of Hungary), are on the Danube River. Will be cruising up Danube, and down the Rhine Rivers, over the next 14 days. Currently posting from hotel internet cafe.
I have finally been able to report in again ! Been to Jungfraujoch, highest railway station in the World, at the top of a glacier in Switzerland, 11,700 feet in altitude.
Reporting from Tuscany, in Italy, Villa La Palagina.
Have been in Paestum where there is a Parthenon style Greek temple, later used by the Romans. It never suffered the indignity of being used by the Turks as a magazine for explosives. The magazine in the Parthenon accidentally exploded, causing grievios and permanent damage to the building. The temple in Paestum (Agrigentum to the ancient Greeks), is in much better condition than the Parthenon.
Attended the wedding of my niece in Frascati, about 30 klm north of Rome. The couple will be living in Sydney.
Looking forward to visiting Sicily, looking in particular at the ancient Greek archeological sites, as will as a visit to the Mount Etna Volcano.
No one has attempted to sell me fake ancient coins, although I have an extensive collection of ancient coins in all three coinage metals. I do, however, have an extensive collection of fake ancient coins for my own education in how to identify them. At least, I should be well able to defend myself from the fakes, should anyone try to sell me one.
Should be back home in Sydney Australia by mid October.
