I got the transaction cancelled. I called my credit card company and backed my card. I emailed the auction house and told them not to charge my card. They got back to me and cancelled the sale of this coin. they also banned me from their future auctions. I do not want to reveal the name of the auction house. If anyone cares to know just send me an email.

This is what you get for sticking up for yourself and pointing out the fake sale. Something tells me they don't care and will continue their ways. Shame, shame.

I am sorry that your first NFLD coin turned out this way... these coins are awesome to collect, and I hope this experience has not deterred you from collecting NFLD coins.

i am not taking sides in this one bit, as I know how it feels to be sold a coin which is fake/damaged etc, I just want to make something clear..

although I do not know any details about the OP being blocked from future bidding, I want to say in defense of the person auctioning it, that after the sale was cancelled, he asked for opinions from multiple people on the coin's authenticity, I was shown pictures of the coin by someone who had seen it in hand and was asked for my opinion so it could be relayed to the original seller. we all agreed it was counterfeit and to my understanding the auctioneer had no intent on reselling it once he knew for sure that it is fake, he also apparently made it clear after he heard all our opinions, that the coin would not be sold again.

I am not taking sides, and if the original poster was blocked from auctions unjustly I fully condemn that, I just wanted to make what I knew clear without coming off as biased towards the seller. so please nobody take my post as any type of defense of the person who auctioned this coin.

although I know the pictures were bad quality in this case, I just want to say as a broad statement that knowledge is our best tool, always do your research and be glad that we have people like Mike fighting this kind of stuff constantly!

as a side question, Mike, would you be familiar of what the counterfeiters made these out of? are they real gold?

No gold in any example I have seen. The one chemically tested was brass.
The buyer has done nothing wrong. I wonder if there were any other counterfeit coins in the auction? Transparent this situation is NOT.

Another reason why more valuable coins should be bought TPG graded. Especially in the day of current counterfeits that have gotten so good.

hi everyone, I reached out to the auctioneer and this was his response, he seems pretty genuine. this is an email I received this morning.

Hi Will:

Thank you for your input on the forum.

I don't think that the guy was actually banned, but he would have been listed as a buyer who didnt complete the sale by Icollector. They see a sale not complete they note this on their list of buyers to beware of.

I will be sure he is not banned from future sales.

We at no time denied his allegation on the coin, but found it odd that no one had heard of bad ones. We asked a lot of dealers, including Steven B.

Good to know the reason behind why it is a fake.

Again, thanks for checking in to this.

I think out of the hundreds of thousands of lots we have offered we may have seen 2 - 3 bad coins which we do not offer again once we find out.

We are auctioneers and not coin dealers and have to rely on the consignors and their knowledge as a collector,

The consignor of this coin has been a client for 30 plus years.

He obviously was fooled when he bought this coin.

orfew - send me a personal message through CCF and I'll make sure you get a couple of nice real NFLD coins to start your collection... a small gift from me (and CCF).

NFLD collectors are almost as rare as NFLD coins themselves!!

Many thanks to all for the support. It is greatly appreciated. BTW, I definitely received a message stating I was banned.

@Nickelsguy

I did not receive an email from you.

@SPP-Ottawa

I cannot send or receive emails through ccf for some reason. I would however love to take you up on your most generous offer if I can get the email function fixed.

Mods

Could you else find out why I cannot send or receive emails through CCF?

The ban was from the auction company. I am still on icollector with no problems registering for other auctions.

I sent you a PM through CCF. If you don't receive it then perhaps your current email is different from the one you registered with - check you own profile settings to be sure.
