There is a reason that many collectors of gold, especially old gold, want TPG authentication. There are just so many counterfeits and doctored pieces out there (and some scary good ones), it's nice to know that at least you're buying the real deal.

I am not good with computers but I think there is a 1865 newfoundland gold on ebay.ca that has the same attributes as this coin I think, not completely sure.

123301298090Unreal! Seller's coin is OBV3, 1865 should be OBV1. Note that OP's coin is also OBV3, 1870 should be OBV1 or OBV2.

Will be gone shortly. DBM I have been playing whack a mole with 5 sellers on ebay for a month. As I can not access the counterfeit chat here I just dont bother mentioning them.

Yes - I am just busy, out of town, and basically not dealing with coin emails at the moment. I'll reply to you sometime after Aug 22, when I get home.

orfew,
FYI - nickelsguy sells a CD-Rom disk with images of all the known made-in-China counterfeit coins, including NFLD and other Provincial coins. The gold coin discussed here is on that disk. Arm yourself with knowledge, if you (or other members) are interested in obtaining this CD-Rom, you can email him: fakecoins@live.com
PS - your free legit coin(s) will be mailed this week.
