This one came in last week. There was alot of discussion on grade for this one. I got it at a fair grade and price IMO. Look very carefully at both sides before you render an opinion..this one is deceiving. Even If you had it in hand , you might miss it. I will post the pic later that sealed the grade, for now I want to see if anyone catches it. Thanks for looking ! All opinions appreciated

I'll be a little harsher and go ms61/62. I see the "scar" behind the eye and a hit low on the cheek, plus it looks like some damage above the eye. The reverse is 64, except it looks like the eagle has a hole in it's beak, plus the holes along the rim.

I'll take the middle ground on the obverse and call it MS-63. The contact marks on Miss Liberty are relatively shallow and the luster breaks probably look worse than they really are because they sharply contrast against the nice frosty surfaces.

The reverse would be even nicer (MS-64 or MS-65) but I'm bothered by the eagle's head. The feather pattern doesn't look right. It looks like someone re-engraved it, perhaps to hide a disfiguring hit. If so, it's a shame. The overall look of this coin seems above average for this semi-key date.

Sigh...I just can't keep up the suspense The cheek and temple/eye hits are pretty nasty . This coin must have been near the bottom of a dropped bag, it has precious few hits, but they are nasty ones. The obverse really has only that one area of real "hits" , the rest is just a little rub and small ticks.

The reverse is another story altogether. Cpfull and Jaobler are right on the money. The hits to the rim near the tips of the Eagle's wings and the one disfiguring hit to the head of the Eagle, all line up like a coin hit it hard and dragged across it for an eighth of an inch or so. The hit is well disguised in the head of the Eagle, and might be missed without magnification. It was the grade breaker for this one, It got an MS-60 for purchase. At first glance that reverse should be a 64, that hit killed it.It is a great looking coin, with lots o' luster, and that hit is well disguised from a foot away ! So can I get e re-grade from you all ? Thanks again ! I think the following pic shows the hit ... Suprised there is no blood....

I would have said in the 61-62 area, so still a nice find. I picked up an 1899-P from the dealer's $18 box so I guess you could say I got a good deal. The grade is probably VF so I wont complain and hope that you got a good deal as well.
Rest in Peace

Wow, nice job, coinhunter. Apparently I'm unfamiliar with Morgan dollar UNC grading because I would have given this a straight 60. I bought an 1899-P awhile ago and if this is going for a 63 obverse, then mine is easily that (with a 66 reverse).
