All well and good except there is no such thing as a 1986 loonie. First production was 1987. For circulation, that is.

2012 went to the lighter/smaller coin and RCM used brass plated steel planchets. Nickel got too expensive

The 2012 loon had 2 versions, old style and new security style when the mint decided to save money on the planchet.

not AI; it is what the 1987 new dollar was supposed to be, before the mint lost the dies and scrambled to make the replacement - the loonie

yes, I realize this is an artists rendering; I was wondering if the group new if they actually produced any coins before losing the dies?
