The actual Minster, photographed by me a few years ago:

The original Minster (Cathedral) in York was founded in the seventh century AD, and the Archbishop of York is second only to the Archbishop of Canterbury in the hierarchy of the Church of England - in medieval times, he also had the right to strike coinage! As befits the main church in an important city, the Minster was continually rebuilt and enlarged during the Middle Ages: the present building was constructed between 1220 and 1472. Unusually for a Gothic cathedral, the main vaults were all made of wood rather than stone, which was to prove disastrous in later centuries.

The Minster survived the Reformation, Civil War and the bombing of York during World War II undamaged, and notably retains almost all its original medieval stained glass, but has suffered three unfortunate fires. In 1829 the roof of the quire was burnt by an arsonist, Jonathan Martin, who had a long history of insanity. Eleven years later, an accidental fire destroyed the Nave roof. Finally in 1984 another fire, probably caused by a lightning strike, destroyed the roof of the South Transept and caused extensive damage: repairs were completed in 1988.

Ukraine 5 hyrven 2021 - lighthouses of Ukraine

A 1995 "One Ecu" coin issued by the town of Vaison-la-Romaine in France in conjunction with their music festival. Such 'coins' were issued by various European towns in the years leading up to 2002 in preparation for the new Euro coinsge:

This photo shows the keep of Vaison's medieval castle, seen on the coin above the Roman ruins that give the town its name. In real life you cannot actually get a photograph of the castle with the ruins in the foreground from this angle!
