Great pick! A lot of people must have gone to sleep on that one.

Congrats. I would definitely have it graded, but you want to specify a variety designation.

Indeed nice one! But there's enough mini dings on reverse when I zoom in and wear on obverse puts it at AU53+BN. But weigh the costs, think you'd pull $80 as a break even? But like Frog, I do think this is nice enough to really protect!

Awesome Cherry Pick tropicalbats! For the grade, I would say in the high AU range.
Errers and Varietys.

This is one heck of a cherrypick! Amazing pickup!
Price guides and auction history have this around $1000-$2500.

Thanks all! I don't know but AU-53 seems a bit harsh, but that's why I'm asking as I am not a grading person. I think if there was some consensus that it should go 55 or better then it would be settled and I would send it off. But even so, as Tanman notes it's a very expensive coin, and probably best to just get it done either way. After winning it I did a lot of research on sales of these things and think it would settle at auction for around $1800 at AU-55.

Great pick up. If selling it is a possibility then get it graded. If you intend to keep it then go with your gut.

I warned you Stoneman, but had to get it in hand before I could really say I had it.
Seems like it would be best for the coin and my sanity to just send it off to PCGS and then it's a done thing. Probably do that next week.

TB, I'm quite conservative when it comes to grading, usually not too far off especially from a pix when not in hand. I say so to not get a person's expectations up if it does come back a lower grade than anticipated. Of course, it does depend which TPG you use(tougher/lenient?) and how you wish to have it designated, plus of course, you're intentions with it. For the estimated value as stated above, go for the gusto, choose PCGS, may just click a few notches up the dollar scale. Good luck.

So that's what they look like not rubbed down to VG10. I can see what all the fuss is over this one. Exceptional variety and nice example. Oh my that one gets the PCGS slabb for sure. I sat AU55. Some of my key date Lincoln's are dinged like yours but have straight grades, on the other hand my VG details 1917 DDO (damaged) has a teeny tiny rim ding barely noticeable. I told you about the 1922 die #2 raw I passed on it for $900.00, owner sold it and 3 months later fella came back showed it to him in a PCGS holder in AU53...so that tells you about my grading skills. Boy an MS60 BN would jolt us all. Bats your killing me with these coins man.

Thanks! And Cammy, don't worry, I'm still paying my dues along the way. Tonight just scrounging off-number doubled dies from some B/U rolls. 1970-S WDDO-009, WDDO-013 and WDDO-024 from one roll and a 1963-D 1DO-012 from another. Keeps me busy when there isn't a bigger fish in the pond to go after. But still smiling over that 1917 and one might say I am in a particularly good mood this evening.
