Seems odd that a 107-year-old coin qualifies as "modern" but Honest Abe IS still on the current coin. I liked the look of this raw piece and wonder what the CCF folks think about it. I think the vertical lines on the center obverse are planchet striations, rather than marks from mishandling. The small green spots at 9:00 on the reverse and 7:30 on the obverse might be problematic. Is this something that might be successfully corrected using Verdi-Care? I don't want to use acetone on this coin since I have seen luster changes on old copper after acetone processing. Thank you!

Don't use ANYTHING on this coin. It looks great as it is! The striations are normal for this year it's a slight woodgraining effect. The toning looks like it should for a pretty well taken care of coin - given its age. The dirt on it shows originality, I would leave it.
That said, I'm confident it could withstand some light conservation in the right hands and come out nicer. However, this is a semi-key coin and I don't think the problems are bad enough to warrant the need for conservation...IMO.
I see an original AU-63 slider. Does it have cartwheel luster?

Quote: Does it have cartwheel luster? Hi BadThad, Yes, luster is very nice and I don't see any luster breaks or wear. Color seems to be original Red-Brown, with much more red than brown. I agree the striations seem to be the wood-grain effect as seen on many early Lincolns. So, you think the green spots are OK to leave? I hate to think I'm leaving a possible corrosion issue to develop.

Personally, I'd rinse it with acetone and put it into an airtite. That will dehydrate the coin and halt any corrosion processes. If the coin has nice cartwheel luster, I'll go MS-63.

Never reported the grading result for this coin. I eventually sent it to PCGS and they graded it MS-64 RB.

Thanks for the follow-up. Honest grade, I think.
