I was going through my assorted metal detecting finds today, in preparation to showing them to my best friend who just took up the hobby, when I took another look at this broken gold chain I had found.
I don't remember when or where I dug it up, but I obviously thought it was junk and tossed it in the "whatever bucket".
However, today I decided to get out the magnifier and, to my delight and surprise, saw two "14 K" hallmarks on the clasps. It is very light, weighing only .76 gram, but it is gold. The photo doesn't show the hallmarks, but another mark on the clasp which reads "TL".
Should I find anything else ever again I think I'll need to check it more carefully.
