I think that's just the way this particular cent toned. I've seen many of the early 60s cents tone in that way. May have something to do with the high rim.

Could also be the lowest parts of the field that are relatively protected and don't come into contact as often with skin oil and other things.

Stasea00 I thought I was going to see a blazing mint red coin with brown edges . I would have said probably came from an uncirculated roll and the paper wrapper toned the edges . But that's not the case here . Most of your Cent is brown because of environmental toning .
