The smallest ever D is visible but it looks like it could be die pair 2? I was wondering what you guys thought of this coin. I think it's a early die state die pair 2 possibly. Sadly would be a details coin.

Wow now that's one you don't see everyday. I think your on to something with this one, your right all the characteristics for die # 2 are present. Hmmm very interesting. I have attached photos of my details 1922 no D # 2 for comparison. They look alot alike IMO except of course a mintmark.

I'm not seeing die pair 2, as there is never a mint mark visible for that one, the reverse does not look strong enough for a coin of that grade, and the second 2 of the date is not noticeably stronger than the first 2 (and it doesn't have that odd rounded look to the top of the second 2). WE does not look weak enough for die pair 1 or 3 and has a similar problem with the 22 of date only in reverse as the first 2 does not look noticeably stronger than the second 2. Not sure what the coin is, but I can't pick out a die pair match for any of the 4 listed no/weak D varieties.

There clearly is a weak D, and I don't believe die pair 2 is ever associated with a weak D obverse.

Is it possible that it's die pair 2 before it was reworked into the plain? It looks like die pair 2 just an earlier die state.

Except the sharp reverse from a new die.

It may be the obv die of die pair 2 before the final polishing that completely removed the D, but it isn't the rev die of pair 2.

Yeah I agree the reverse isn't strong enough to be die pair number 2, would this be a new weak d die pair then?
