The large nations of Russia, it's newly formed states with oil or mineral wealth, China, India, counties with money export restrictions, and of course the Great money laundering counties like Cayman Island and so on would not exist with no cash. I sort of wonder what the drug dealers use in the counties like Sweden, they must accept visa or their version of interac. There was reports that a few years ago the Greek underground economy was like 80% of GDP thus it's a country basically bankrupt. We have the best of both world a stable currency and a vast credit and electronic system that is in most part safe and easy to use

I think stamp collecting went by the wayside due to Pitney Bowes - Being able to 'charge' your own machine, which you could only rent, and print your own stamps on a strip of tape, made going to the post office irrelevant, and as such larger denominations of stamps.
Unless we can get our own Pirate's Mint (re: Grand Cayman) and make our own coin - the credit card companies have 'cashless cash' all tied up.

Quote: Ummm... the very first time the Borg were introduced in season 2 ("Q-Who"), the Borg told Picard and all on the Enterprise bridge that "Resistance is Futile." It was their catch phrase long before Picard got his Latin/Borg function/name when assimilated (end of third season). OMG - some people really can't take a post for what it is! I never said he was the first, the second, or the last! He just said it - look at the video, again, and again, please! He's none other than PICARD!! " Resistance is futile. "

Quote: Spruett, try spending it or depositing in a bank. They won't accept it. For example, the $20 for $20 boondoggle I don't have any experience with cashing in Canadian NCLT. However, even for circulation coins and notes are greeted with utter suspicion in the US. I am sure you've heard stories of the police being called when someone tries to spend a $2 bill here. How about trying to spend a large dollar (say, a clad Ike) or 20 cent piece? What it really comes down to is that government mints issue coins with a noted face value (however arbitrary). You may only be able to cash them in for face value at a mint branch, but you would be an idiot to do so. What was the face value of those ridiculously large Canadian gold coins? They are now worth, in PM content, four times what the stated face value is (C$1M). These coins are, in fact, Legal Tender, yet they are worth more in PM than face. That's the obvious point and source of confusion. Yes, perception is a part of it, but they are strictly legal payment according to the federal gov't. If you think about it, why not? They sell you something for double the PM value (or more) and place a notoriously low face value on it, and are then willing to grant you face value for payment with it, not even PM value. Hmmm... Basically, NCLT is never meant to be exchanged one for one with baseless currency, but the gov't left the door open for it to happen, and it will always be in their favor. So, yes, NCLT is legal tender. Who decides to accept it as such depends on the person/business. Personally, I will accept all NCLT at face for payment.

Just to add to the last quote, many of us here has taken 20 for 20 types NCLT coins and after a short explanation successfully deposited them into your own bank accounts, there are some pretty dishonest dealers who offer like 16 bucks for these, most honest dealers will tell you to just deposit them. Regarding the rest of the NCLT, bullion has to really crater, but lately the dealers are only offering slightly over bullion for the non popular ones

Speaking of cashless society... I just found out today that our Chili's restaurant no longer takes cash! Being in a conservative enclave that came as a surprise to me.
Also, I read that high yield savings account offered by on-line (cashless) banks are the new thing these days... Deposits are FDIC insured and rates are like 200X the pitiful 0.01% you get at regular banks. I just opened an account to try out. We'll see.
Good or bad, cash is definitely on its way out.

I read last week where some cities in your country have prohibited such businesses and many cities and states are considering the same prohibitions. Seems the no-cash businesses are infringing on the rights of marginalized citizens.
