The investigation into this coin has taken me through 3 centuries, and I still can't figure it out. This copper coin weights 15g, is 8mm thick (which is very thick) and 16mm wide.

One path leads to Gwalior, and the other to the Maratha Confederacy, mainly because of the large trident (trisul). The person who previously owned the coin, labelled it as the Srinagar mint, but the tree symbol on the obverse looks to me like Kunch mint obverse #4.

I found one formal site that lists a coin that's very similar (see http://webapps.fitzmuseum.cam.ac.uk...p?oid=102576), but I'm not so sure. The obverse is exactly the same as mine, but I still can't relate this coin to a Krause KM number.

Any opinions will be appreciated.

I think it's Gwalior but it may not match what Krause shows. I did find a link expecting to show your coin, but the link was a page removed dead end.

I would definitely call your coin a match to the one in the link you provide, keeping in mind differences in position of the strike on the flan and differences between dies. Looking through Maratha coins in Krause I didn't find a match.
It's similar in style to the Maratha Kunch paisa KM #65, though not a match.
