Is this what they consider a peg leg or is it just a normal one?

Well a peg leg is an example of a polished die issue. Yours looks partly polished.

But any Ike dollar that is polished down enough will look like that. case of give it a name and people will collect them.
Just a polished die issue to me.

You've got me. They are not a die variety. They are a die event that altered a normal die. Now they are polished. I don't keep them, but I'm a cent variety purist.

Well thanks for the input. when I get a coin, I look it up in my errors book and see if that year had any known errors. They showed the 71 D being a Peg leg. So that's what I was wondering on. So do they really hold any value ? Or do people collect "Peg legs"?

People save them, but I don't know if they sell or not? You might try this: On ebay, check the watch feature on them and see what they sell for. After getting several, you might get an average price for them. A lot of books out there telling people to look for these, but if there is no real premium, the ones selling the books are the only ones cashing in.

Definitely! I have several and there are several different types of "Peg Legs" out there. I've already given my collection of "Ikes" to my sons but I still look for Peg Legs routinely.

To learn more of the "Peg Leg Ikes", visit the Ike Group on line.
