Here's a twofer, a nicely toned 1811 British silver shilling token issued by Frederick Reynolds, a local brewer and merchant in Yarmouth, Norfolk. Obverse shows the town arms with its three merlions -- think mermaid and lion. Reverse features Mr. Reynolds's family crest, which he apparently had commissioned when he became Mayor of Yarmouth. The outstrecteched hand brandishing a baton is a traditional symbol of civic authority. Dalton 17.

Iceland 1946 2 Krónur. This coin is the first issue of the newly established Republic of Iceland (founded by a referendum in 1944). Minted in aluminium bronze, it was later produced from 1958 - 1966 in nickel brass. The obverse features the Icelandic coat of arms surrounded by the four traditional protector spirits ("Landvćttir") of Iceland. These are Griđungur the bull, Gammur the eagle, Dreki the dragon, and Bergrisi the giant.  Inordinately fascinated by bits of metal with strange markings and figures
