@jskirwin, I don't think value of the item is of what measures the ownership. but the fact that someone spent time and effort of his personal time to find something whether it worth 10$ or 1 million dollars it is his find and ethically should be his. The item was under ground for 1000s years and if government really cared with all their resources they should have found it earlier rather than wait for someone to put his life and effort to find something and then once found government comes and seize it. it is just very unfair to me. and plus the officials in government would eventually get their hands and sell it themselves and put the money in their ever growing bank accounts :( sad times ....

I may be way off here, but AlRashid's comment about how Governments can be corrupt reminds me of a great documentary about lost WWII gold and antiquities found in the Philippines and how the Marcos regime tried to steal it from the man who found it.

If you anyone has the time, it's a great watch.
