...howell1018's post reminds me of a story from around 2012, long before I found CCF.

back then I was helping a friend- Tony- paint coconuts. we primarily painted sports team logos on them along with 'Key West 2012'. one day we took a truckload of finished coconuts downtown to drop them off to various sellers. at our first stop Tony was needing something to get his saliva going and he asked me to run into any store and nab him a pack of gum. he said to grab a handful of change from the ashtray in his truck, which I did. I went into the closest shop that I figured had some gum for sale, found a pack and took it to the register. the woman there rang it up-- $3.49-- for a pack of gum. I dumped my handful of change onto the counter and I heard the familiar ring of silver. I put my glasses on to examine the change as the woman began counting coins, going for all the quarters first. I saw numerous silver dimes and I began picking them out. I quickly realized she was now snatching the silver dimes so I picked faster, but soon enough she had her $3.49 and I quickly scooped the remaining change off the counter and got out of there. I went back to the truck to search the rest of the change in the ashtray. I think I remember picking over a dozen silver dimes out of it all.

as it turned out, Tony said the gum was old & stale. I questioned him about the silver dimes. apparently Tony's cousin owed him a small amount of money and he repaid Tony with a lot of change, some of which actually was his cousin's mom's change (Tony's aunt). Tony said he knew some of it was silver but didn't care. he loaded his truck's ashtray with it and used it for sodas & stuff.

i tried telling him why he ought not be spending those silver coins, but he didn't care. at that time he was a year or two into belonging to the Jehovah's Witnesses, so he just laughed at me.

My best find in a long time.

Taking the dog for a walk I see what looks like a wad of crumbled paper. It's not crumbled paper but $1 bills. All around the $1 bills is change. Total is $19.71 all in 1 spot and road rashed. Have no idea how it got there as I walked the same direction yesterday and there was nothing there. It's all wet so it had to be there for a while and considering the road rashed I wonder if there was more. I didn't take a picture until I got home.
