Helene tore us up. So many trees down everywhere. We were trapped in our neighbourhood. Finally got out to the office today to get online. Power likely to be out all week.

i lived in asheville 2006-07, and then in whittier (in western NC) for a couple months in '07, I'm familiar with the general layout of the region: mountainous region that doesn't typically get tropical systems. widespread devastation and unfortunately a lot of lives lost across several states. it was a monster storm.

migratory paths of birds changed in the days/hours before the storm, testament to the electromagnetic field that birds & other animals use to navigate.. they were tuned in enough to know to get out of the way of the approaching monster storm.

ugh, hurricane season isn't over until end of november. there's another system starting to brew in the yucatan region & could develop and generally follow helene's path. don't let your guard down yet.

tonight I scored my second wild buck of the month & twentieth of the year:





i picked $1.56 altogether, the running total has passed the $310-mark. 7 weeks and 3 days until black friday.

it hasn't been a very exciting or worthwhile effort the past several nights, but I keep finding coins that are lost or tossed, and they all add up.

last night started as most nights usually do: slow, slim pickins, dodging zombies, etc... i'll show you how the night went.

the first 12 stops were all single coins:

(thirteen... I hit the thirteen cent-mark very often, picking those coins one at a time, from different areas.. )

since it wasn't raining last night and since we are looking at an elevated chance of rain the next several nights due to Milton approaching I decided to hit the 3 larger parking lots while they were dry, but they yielded very little...

up to twenty-five cents now; that was twelve stops for twenty-five cents, all single coins, all picked from small parking lots and large parking lots. all of that area yielded just twenty-five cents. that's the main reason I do the large parking lots only once a week. the smaller parking lots along the way weren't much better. I had fed all of the cats by now, having searched maybe 2/3 of the many parking lots & other areas that I typically ride through, and was on my way home around 2:15am. with just twenty-five cents in my pocket and only a few places left to check, it was looking like another paltry haul on the night, but my last three stops changed that.

i scored two quarters from an ice machine coin return (up to seventy-five cents now); one quarter from near an air machine (up to exactly a dollar now ); and two quarters and a zincoln atop the ice machine at my last stop before home. I'm glad I remembered to stop to grab a bag of ice on the way home or I would have missed fifty-one cents.

so, $1.51 on the night, the first $1+ night this month.
