I forgot to take pictures, but yesterday I wrapped up all the change I found over the last 7 weeks and made a deposit of $26, which went towards the purchase of a Bank Note from Portugal.

Yes I know if I worked another hour or 2 I would get $26 extra but I'm walking the dog the change is there so why not pick it up. Not every day is great, some days are pretty bad, and then some days I get almost a $1 in change. After a few weeks it adds up.

@princetane, we explained that already, its getting to Winter in the southern hemisphere, its not growing season there ;)

that's how it works. find it, save it, then exchange it all for something better.

i pick up every cent I see. I ride around & feed my street kitties, then I go coin hunting. I have good days ($1+) and bad days (sub-$1), but it all goes into the jar when I get home. I have to keep in mind how much I've accumulated (since valentine's day, the last time I emptied the jar). since I currently have a speck over $200 saved up, I figure if I'm patient i'll eventually creep up to $300, that'll be about enough for a 1/10 oz gold eagle. with the silver eagle type 1 reverse ending & my subsequent jumping off the silver eagle train, I can put the found money toward gold again. the finding & saving has helped me with filling my silver eagle needs the past couple years, but that's coming to an end, so it's time to switch back to gold. I figure i'll have enough saved up for that by mid/late august.

last night was good for finding $2.10, including my first wild buck in some time, pictured upper right. that's my feet at the bottom, and kittyfeet at lower left.




tragically, I had to cut my night short once I discovered my front tire nearly flat... I think I rolled over a chunk of broken bottle, left a nasty gash in my tire and the air slowly leaked out as the night wore on. bike is at the bikeshop as I type this.

fortunately it was the front tire. guys at bikeshop whipped that into shape pretty quickly. a flat back tire requires more time & effort. i'll be out on the hunt again tonight, hopefully I dodge all broken glass.

i stopped riding a mountain bike after 2010. got me a nice Italian road bike, it's much easier to glide to the kitties & parking lot to parking lot on a road bike. the mountain bike was handy when I lived on a mountain (asheville & whittier, nc, circa 2006-07), not so handy on this island. road bike is better for me now.

i just returned home from getting a coffee at circle k, where I picked Three Cents & two dimes from the pavement in front of an air-vac as I left. getting an early start on tonight's coin pickins....

I'm actually due for a new bike. I've had my current ride for about 12 years. it's getting to be beat-up.

This is not my find, but my brother-in-law's. He lives in a small town in northeast Arkansas that was incorporated in 1884. Our families have lived there since before the town was founded. It was a real boom town in the late 1800's and early 1900's (mining, timber, and mother-of-pearl button manufacturing), but has been gradually dying since the 1950's. Many years ago he bought a large vacant lot near the former downtown and built his house. He has to regularly grade his unpaved driveway, and is always looking afterwards for old coins or other interesting things that turn up. One time he found this coin laying on the surface and didn't know what it was. Very badly corroded from probably well over a century in the ground, but easily identifiable as an 1882 Shield nickel.
