free stuff!... as good as free money, to me... it is worthy.

we have our first decent ripper of a summer t-storm happening as I peck this message on my iphone, so I deduce tonight'll be a rain-out.. if I find anything at all it most likely won't be much.. i'll still be watching for the wild bills, though..

Yesterday I helped out at the auto upholstery shop, and the boss told me to take the loose change out of a pickup truck center console he was going to junk. Well, I opened it up, and it was flooded with rainwater... and full of nickels! Gross nickels... but I took them all out and they went in the coin jar!
Well earned!

I've found four wheat cents within the last two weeks, bringing my total since moving here a year ago up to nine... Foreign coins have been hot lately too...
Fantastic!

A few years ago on my morning walk I scored a $20. A few blocks up right outside a shabby apartment that generally was inhabited by meth heads. I chuckled and cackled at the thought that one of then had lost their stash money. Too bad, so sad!

Walking home in the dark from the movie theater on Friday night, a streetlight illuminated a lonely 10p on the sidewalk!

(Translation for English people - I picked up this coin from the pavement while I was walking home from the cinema).

bless you, NumisRob, for giving that abandoned coin a home.

all my action was confined to parking lots tonight, after three consecutive rain-outs I finally scored $1.20 in well-scattered change.. $12 to go..

providence?

several months ago I nabbed a new aluminum yardstick-- Empire, model #403-- that someone left at an air-vac. brand-spankin'-new, not a scratch on it, probably never used. I took it home.

this week I finally got to use the thing for what I intended to use it for: drywall repair. a recent move-out at a customer's home yielded one minor-to-moderate accident.. a section of wall sustained a hit, left a gaping hole about 1-1/2'w x 2'l... for me, a very easy repair. the yardstick assisted with the measuring & straight line-making & cutting. I also used it as a sort of level, to show the customer how flat the walls were not. anyway, the free yardstick assisted greatly, and I'm glad I found it. i'll fetch $300 for that repair & repainting.

and when that $ arrives, it'll be time for some gold.

plus, the end of the current cycle approaches. the target amount will be reached probably within the next week to ten days, so the cycle could feasibly stretch to 18 weeks.

coins & bullion coming soon...wheeeeeeeeeee, I can hardly contain myself... if it stays dry tonight I stand a reasonable chance at finding some errant money...

i think we've had more rain in the past week than in the previous two months combined. it has made pickin' very challenging. despite tonight's bouts of ill-timed sprinkles, however, I was able to locate $1.31 in well-scattered change, plus another bottle of water, which makes this the fifth straight week in which I've found at least one bottle of water. a free bottle of water makes the tastiest cupacoffee.

$10 to go...

I found a pile of 31 pennies yesterday, my new biggest such accumulation on record; the previous biggest pile of pennies I'd found was about a year ago and contained "only" 24. My total yesterday ended up decent: 40 pennies, 1 nickel, 4 dimes, and 2 quarters, for $1.35 in total. Today's was $1.47.

Given that I went up north this past weekend, my jar currently has coins found in six different cities across two different states! Past few weeks have been weak as a whole, but there were still those four wheat cents I mentioned with a picture earlier in the month so there's definitely that.

Bad news though: one day last week, as I had just picked up a dime and two pennies at the McDonald's drive-through I always pass through on my way to work, the lady working on the other side of the window saw me and said with a foreign accent, "okay thank you, you put in there?", pointing to the donation bin underneath the window. We looked at each other awkwardly for a couple of seconds, and I just put the coins in the bin like she told me to and ran. In other words, I got gypped out of the only 12 cents I'd already found that day...and then found only two pennies the rest of the day, so the total I wrote down was what I put in my jar, a meager $0.02.

But then also last night, one of the other girls who works at the same convenience store I've mentioned even showed me the penny trays (normally kind of hidden next to the cash registers) so I could look through them for anything interesting. In other words, she's caught on to me.

DiscoLover82, I can sympathize with your plight, it reads a lot like mine!

re: drive-up window areas... here on the island, there are numerous drive-up windows, but most of them I don't go to... I was chased out of Wendy's a few years ago so I don't go there.. McD is open 24 hrs, and since it's one of very few 24 hr eateries (and by far the most popular) the drive-up lane always has cars in it.. in the past, there used to be lulls in the commerce & I could quickly zip into the drive-up lane, quickly do some pickin', and blast off, but not anymore.. on more than one occasion I've been seen & given the evil eye by employees, and since the cops only seem to show up when I don't need them to I resist tempting fate & just skip it, even though I realize how much change is typically lying under those windows..

BK is on stock island, and I'm sure the homeless clean that area up each day.. and it's too far to pedal to, so BK is out... sonic has motion sensors that set off lights & alarms if you get too close to the drive-up area, I discovered one night.. so sonic is out..

i have just two drive-up areas that I check every night, one of them is the building that occasionally lets dollar bills flutter away..

this past week-plus has been rainy, which has limited my nightly finds.. tuesday last week was a goose egg, 4 other nights were better than goose egg but less than a dollar, and the other two nights were $1.31 & $1.2something... pretty skimpy... the rainy season has finally shown up, I reckon.. that tropical stuff about to blast into texas just passed over us as a tropical wave, very rainy & blustery, no good for pickin'.. the only different coin I have picked in weeks was a 1983 canadian cent w/extreme road rash..

more soon
