Nice finds MrPink2018! That's a pretty good amount of change you found. Also, finding a gecko in that soda machine is crazy! I'm assuming it was alive, when you took the picture?

yes, E&V, he held still for just a second so I could nab that pic and he scrambled away. the accumulated $190.50 has been piling up since april 21. it's been about 19 weeks since this cycle began. it rained for 5 minutes about a half-hour ago. no wind, so all that water is going to just sit there. finding anything tonight will be a challenge.

For those that don't know, Mediterranean geckos and several other species are widespread from all parts of Florida along the Gulf Coast into Texas. They're real sweeties - nocturnal and hang out by porch lights etc. The only problem I've ever heard associated with them is when they congregate in electrical boxes.

yep, they're harmless and OK in my book as they eat bugs .. when they're very young, and very small, they'll find their way indoors and scuttle around.. occasionally the cat locates them and chaos ensues, though it's not nearly as bad as when he manages to nab a bird from the balcony & brings it inside.. last night was as expected: sloppy, and difficult to see coins on the pavements.. but I did manage to locate fifty cents... after a long, hot summer the current cycle is ending and there'll be some gold (and maybe some other stuff) in my mailbox very soon...

yep, and then some. brief light rain showers slicked parts of the island tonight, throwing a bit of a damper on my nightly doings. some places were unsearchable. additionally, with this being a holiday weekend it was more like a saturday night instead of sunday, more ppl out & about than usual, so some other areas were unsearchable due to too many bodies lingering too close. by the time I arrived at the final soda machines near the end of the route I had just fourteen cents in my pocket. several nights ago I posted about my discovering a gap in the coin return cup of a soda machine that allows coins to fall through and onto a ledge up above the inside of the dispenser hole. I checked that spot tonight and picked three quarters from it. looks like other ppl will be losing change to that gap in the coin return cup. so despite the rain & interference I picked $0.89 tonight.

yep, it just continues to pile up, E&V. my paint job starts in the later morning. I said i'd be temporarily giving the nightly hunt a rest, so when I went out tonight my intention was to get to the kitties first, then peek in on a few places on my way home. I started at what would normally be the end of the kitty route, fed the last kitty first, made my way back toward home and fed the next batch of kitties (several; varies night to night), then pedaled off & fed the first kitty last, and went pretty much straight home, only veering off-course just for a few of the more lucrative places to check; they take less than a minute. there are a few places I must roll through every night on my way to or from the kitties. if I don't I could miss things like this: every night I will check around the building that leaks dollars. I found this wild bill crouched under a bush near that building. I can't pass up the opportunity to find those. i also checked that soda machine again tonight. I picked five zincolns and a dime there. I don't know why ppl put zincolns into soda machines. $1.15 tonight, and I barely went out of my way for it.

Mr. Pink, sorry to see your Wendy's story. I figure I'm a little safer here, considering I'm in a larger city with a large homeless population, so I'm certain the average person has seen things a lot weirder than a chronically broke college student picking up pennies. Congrats on yet another wild buck; that building is your lucky spot! I had a good day yesterday: $3.20 in spendable American money, $2.55 of it coming from a Pepsi machine just like the one you're talking about. That doesn't include 120 South Korean won from a Coinstar (that's worth about 9 cents), or TWO (!) wheat cents (1946 and 1947-D), making yesterday the first time I've found multiple in one day! Yesterday's score also included a 2009-D dime; I threw it in my jar because it's not worth anything more than ten cents in the ugly, road-rashed condition it was in. My last coin dump was this past Thursday, August 31. Let's see if I can fill up my jar by Thanksgiving. My mom keeps sending me rolls of quarters for laundry, even though I keep telling her I find enough that I can effectively do it for free...the good side effect is that it means I now have $50-60 or so in quarters lying around my apartment, so much of a surplus that I can just keep chucking all the quarters I find into my jar alongside all my pennies, nickels, and dimes for a while before I even have to think about it! It's 8:30 AM on the last day before classes begin here. I'm already up to 57 cents this morning; a road-rashed quarter on the sidewalk didn't hurt, and one particular street that sees a lot of pedestrian traffic (and therefore a lot of dropped change) produced two pennies and three dimes already.

My total today is now up to $3.81 impressively enough! The same Pepsi machine came into play yet again: I was there around 2:45 PM and saw there were three cans of Pepsi that someone had apparently bought, but not taken; as I weaseled the cans out, four quarters and a dime ($1.10) fell into the cup, eliminating my need to reach up there with my finger. I'm beginning to think this machine might be malfunctioning, but hey, I'll take the free money and beverages!
